
MSSNY, Physicians Push Back Against Consent-to-Pay Law
A new New York law requiring physicians to discuss treatment costs with patients before they sign consent-to-pay forms aims to enhance cost transparency and prevent unexpected bills. But its implementation has been indefinitely delayed due to resistance from physicians who raise logistical concerns. Medical Society of the State of New York President Dr. Jerome Cohen notes that medical services are unique since “it’s not possible to take the service back,” adding MSSNY “very much appreciates the governor’s efforts to try to fix this problematic financial consent requirement.”
