James E. Satterfield, MD, MBA, MS, F.A.C.S. Elected Vice President
of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY)

MSSNY is the State’s Primary Professional Organization for Physicians

Westbury, NY—April 7, 2025 – James E. Satterfield, MD, MBA, MS, F.A.C.S. was elected Vice President of the Medical Society of the State of New York on April 5.

Dr. Satterfield has been a board-certified General Surgeon for over 40 years and in private practice for 30 years. He serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and is the Medical Director of the Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Therapy at New York-Presbyterian Queens.

A graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Satterfield also completed his general surgery residency and a postgraduate year in cardiothoracic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He completed advanced surgical training at Booth Memorial Hospital under the leadership of Jameson Chassin, MD, FACS. Additionally, he received an Executive MBA and MS from Cornell University.

Dr. Satterfield has been affiliated with many hospital systems in Queens, including as Vice Chair of Surgery of the Caritas Health System and Director of Surgery of Mary Immaculate Hospital until the hospital’s closure in 2009.

An active member of The Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) for many years, Dr. Satterfield chaired MSSNY’s Committee on Healthcare Strategies and is emeritus co-chair of MSSNYPAC.

Dr. Satterfield’s involvement in organized medicine extends to many additional organizations. He served as President of Queens County Medical Society in 2008-2009 during a time of small hospital turmoil and closures in NYC and continues to be active on the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Medicine of Queens County. He was Cancer Liaison for the American College of Surgeons in 2008 and served the organization as a Governor from 2017 -2023. He is presently a member of the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn- Long Island Chapter. He is also a member of many national medical societies including NMA, SBAS, SAGES, ASBrS, and McCune Smith-Cordice Medical Society.

As a founder and chairperson of the Board of the Queens County Independent Practice Association since 2009, Dr. Satterfield has given presentations at national, statewide, and local lectures and symposiums on such topics as the evolution of healthcare, surgery, and cancer care and has contributed clinical writings to medical journals. He has traveled internationally to Haiti and Cuba to provide surgical care and education.

Dr. Satterfield strongly believes in diversity and inclusive excellence, and he continues to volunteer through community service, advocacy and presentations to the underserved communities.
