Advocacy to Preserve Medicaid Coverage for Millions of New Yorkers
Physicians are also urged to advocate to help protect patient access to community-based physician care by opposing steep cuts to Medicaid coverage and payment for care that is being considered by Congress as part of a massive Budget reconciliation bill. Protect Patient Access to Comprehensive Care: Stop Deep Cuts to Medicaid
MSSNY continues to work collaboratively with a large coalition of patient and health care provider groups from across New York State, including joining a letter to members of New York’s Congressional Delegation NY Delegation-Letter-Protect-Medicaid-January-2025.pdfurging them to oppose deep proposed cuts to the Medicaid program and other essential publicly financed health insurance programs. While the recent Budget resolution did not specifically implement cuts to Medicaid, it hands a massive nearly $900 billion cutting target to the House Energy & Commerce Committee, of which Medicaid is a major program item under their authority.
If these cuts under serious discussion are enacted, it would have a significant domino effect, resulting in deep slashes in New York State for programs that currently help millions of patients. MSSNY also joined a letter to Congressional leaders from dozens of state medical associations State Medical Assn Letter to Congress (022725).pdf from across the country to prevent these steep Medicaid cuts. In addition, several county medical societies have joined in locally focused joint stakeholder letters to their local Congressional representatives.
