The Physicians Foundation Calls for Convergence of Efforts to Address Drivers of Health

The Physicians Foundation has announced an urgent call to address the critical state of U.S. health care by focusing on drivers of health (DOH) such as food security and transportation access. This initiative aims to improve patient outcomes and reduce health care costs. Key steps include the inclusion of DOH measures in Medicare’s Physician Fee Schedule, new grants to support state-level DOH integration, and the appointment of Dr. Deborah Rose as a new fellow to advance DOH research.

Dr. Gary Price, president of The Physicians Foundation, emphasized the unsustainable nature of the current health care system, citing poor physician well-being, lack of primary care support, and persistent health disparities. The Foundation’s efforts include updating resources for the “Let’s Take 5 to Address Drivers of Health” campaign and supporting two new grantees, the Medical Society of Northern Virginia Foundation and Healthy Rural California, to enhance DOH integration.

Additionally, the Foundation collaborates with existing grantees to share successful DOH integration practices and has introduced new resources to assist physicians in incorporating DOH considerations into patient care. Dr. Rose’s fellowship will focus on developing practical solutions and advancing understanding of DOH impacts on health care. The Physicians Foundation advocates for a collective effort to ensure all patients have access to quality, affordable care. Read full press release.
